Guest Post ~ Sustainer Container
This is a slightly different post, as it is a guest post from Maya, a final year university student who has founded Sustainer Container as part of her work. She asked if I would be happy to promote her brand, which I am 🙂 The website is launching on 9 April at sustainercontainer.co.uk! Here is what she has to say:
Sustainability has become a buzzword and aspiring to live a more eco-friendly lifestyle has become increasingly popular in recent years, particularly among young people. But what does living sustainably mean? Well according to Google, the definition of sustainable is “conserving an ecological balance by avoiding depletion of natural resources”. For me, living a more sustainable lifestyle means trying to live in a way that helps protect and conserve the earth, rather than harming it. Trying to live in a way that is not detrimental to the earth can seem a pretty overwhelming task when most aspects of modern life can be considered harmful to the environment, from flying and driving, to buying new clothes and eating meat. It’s important not to get too bogged down on trying to live a perfect eco-friendly lifestyle and instead focus on small steps you can take, to reduce the negative impact you have on the environment.
Here are some simple swaps you can make to live a more environmentally-friendly lifestyle:
- Bamboo toothbrush- reduce the plastic waste you produce by using a bamboo toothbrush
- Toothpaste tablets- further reduce the plastic produced by your daily bathroom routine by swapping plastic toothpaste tubes for toothpaste tablets in a refillable tin. Just chew the tablets until creamy and then brush as normal.
- The last bathroom swap I recommend is to switch to bars of soap and shampoo, instead of plastic bottles. If you are worried about trying a shampoo bar, give a 2 in 1 shampoo and soap bar a try- you can trial a shampoo bar and just use as soap if it is not for you.
- Use beeswax wraps or a vegan alternative to wrap your sandwiches or cover plates, instead of clingfilm. Simply use the wrap then was with tepid water and reuse.
- Produce bags, to put your loose fruit and veg in instead of buying a plastic bag or plastic wrapped veg are a convenient way to be more eco-friendly
- Take bamboo cutlery with you on the go to save using disposable plastic cutlery
- Pens may not be the first thing you think of when you think about plastic waste, but consider how many pens you go through in a year? Swapping to a refillable bamboo pen will both reduce the plastic waste you produce and save you money in the long run.
As a student myself, I am fully aware that trying to be more environmentally-friendly can be both expensive and confusing. For the last year, I have been on a mission to make sustainable living more accessible and I have now put together boxes of environmentally-friendly alternatives to everyday necessities. These boxes are available for less than buying the products individually and all of the above products will be available as part of our boxes!
(and back to myself [Linda] again) If you are looking for some environmentally friendly alternatives, definitely have a peek at the website once it has launched, and follow the account @sustainercontainer on Instagram!
All the love in the world,
