WIDLIMS ep #23 – Plant-based diets in childhood and beyond with Dr Yami

    April 24, 2022 /

I had the pleasure of welcoming Dr Yami Cazorla-Lancaster (she/her), a pediatrician in the US, to discuss the evidence around plant-based eating for children! I feel like this can be a controversial topic, in part due to the media coverage of horror stories where vegan diets go wrong and children suffer. This is episode 23 of WIDLIMS – What I Didn’t Learn in Medical School. I wanted to get Dr Yami's expertise for some of the common questions and considerations when it comes to raising little ones in a plant-forward way. I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I did recording it! This episode covers... Benefits of plant-based…

    October 18, 2020 /

Listen to this episode and read the short article below to get the skinny on cholesterol and how to lower it, featuring host and final year medical student Linda (she/her). PLEASE NOTE this is a podcast episode and article for educational purposes only and should not be taken as individual medical advice. Listen to learn about... what cholesterol is what foods increase “bad” cholesterol levels what foods reduce “bad” cholesterol levels and some extra points regarding fish, triglycerides and apolipoprotein! I promise it is all in accessible language, with non-medical jargon. Consider this an overview of the topic. I would encourage further reading around this by credible organisations such as…

In this week's episode, I chat to the amazing Dr Shireen Kassam (she/her) who is a consultant haematologist, as well as founder and president of Plant-Based Health Professionals (a CIC in the UK) and facilitator of the UK's first university-based Plant-based nutrition course (and she regularly reviews and updates it!). Shepherd’s Pie Recipe ~ vegan

    April 30, 2020 /

This is such a delicious, simple dish which is perfect to serve if you are hosting, or a great meal prep option which you can eat over a couple of days or even freeze! The beauty of it is that you can really use whatever ingredients you have on hand for the “mince” filling – so feel free to substitute any vegetables I used for other things. I will say that carrots, mushrooms and onions form a delicious base. As for the “meaty” substitute, opt for either of the following: brown/green lentils, black beans, TVP, soya mince, tempeh mince or a mixture of either.

    Wholewheat pizza recipe

    April 25, 2020 /

Here follows the recipe I used to make these wholewheat pizzas! I looked up several different recipes and ended up just mixing things a little randomly, and wanted fast results so didn’t let the dough rise for very long but it turned out pretty great! Dough ingredients 1 packet of fresh yeast (42g) 2dl lukewarm water (mix cold & boiling, make sure temperature is adjusted to suit whatever yeast type you’re using) 3-4g salt (a bit more than half a teaspoon) 1 tsp sweetener e.g. sugar, agave, maple syrup 3 tbsp vegetable oil 2 dl white flour + 3 dl wholewheat flour plus extra Dough method Crumble the fresh yeast…

Lucky Pig ~ New Vegan Brunch Menu

    November 18, 2019 /

I was one of the lucky piglets invited along to a preview of Lucky Pig’s new vegan brunch menu at Paradise Palms this weekend. Although the meal was gifted to me (and my +1, a friend who was visiting me from out of town), my (and her) opinion is completely my own. I am a big fan of Lucky Pig food in general though, but I promise this is a fully honest review. Now that that disclaimer is out of the way – let’s get started! First, we were served beautiful drinks. They have alcohol and non-alcoholic options. Having had their Bloody Mary before, I opted for it again because…
