The WIDLIMS concept
Are you tired of struggling with your health? Do you feel poorly understood or judged by friends & family, the general public or healthcare professionals?
In this episode, final year medical student Linda introduces her WIDLIMS concept.
My name is Linda, I’m a final year medical student and the host of WIDLIMS – What I Didn’t Learn in Medical School. In a nutshell, this is a platform for discussing topics which are crucial to health, but simply not taught, glossed over or approached from the wrong angles in medicine and public discourse. My own knowledge combined with valuable input from guests provides you with accessible and most importantly empowering evidence-based information.
Other than studying medicine at university, I’ve had my fair share of less-than-ideal interactions with healthcare professionals as a patient, which has left me feeling like the medical school curriculum doesn’t fully equip us medical students and future doctors for “real life” medicine. What’s more, medicine has traditionally been based on experiences of straight white cis-men, excluding other societal groups’ perspectives.
I will not be regurgitating the old “eat less, move more” advice, or tell you that self-discipline and weight-loss is the solution to every issue of yours and society. So what can you expect from WIDLIMS?
Well, this podcast covers topics within the areas of lifestyle medicine – healthful eating, physical activity, stress management, maintaining healthy relationships toward others and yourself, improving sleep and avoiding risky substances. In addition, you can expect us to discuss mental health in-depth, for example when considering body image & disordered eating in diet culture, as well as health inequalities due to race, gender & sexuality. We’ll also discuss specific health conditions ranging from acne to diabetes to sexually transmitted diseases.
In order to keep up to date with new releases, do subscribe to the podcast on whatever platform you’re using and check out @widlims on Instagram and Twitter.
