WIDLIMS podcast ep #7 – Weight stigma and obesity: what is known vs what is done – Dr Stuart Flint, Professor of the Psychology of Obesity
In this week's episode, I was delighted to talk to Dr Stuart Flint, an expert on weight stigma and obesity. This discussion was super interesting, and raised points I had not even considered myself. You can expect to hear us talk about... what weight stigma is and how it manifests whether weight stigma is justified to ‘tackle’ obesity – is obesity not a ‘problem’ after all? how language and attitudes when it comes to higher weight status differs to those in for example cancer what the science has shown (for years!) about approaches to managing health the UK government’s ‘wake-up call’ obesity strategy launched in July 2020 You can find…

How (not) to Exercise During a Lockdown ~ article
How do you exercise? Is your main focus how much you are “burning”? Do you feel as though food is something you must “earn”? For a long time, thoughts of a punitive nature would pop into my head during workouts, and I unfortunately know that I am not alone. I also know that is a sad way to live life.

~ How to punch diet culture in the face this festive season ~
Ngl I think that is a most catchy title. If it got your attention: hey! I hope you get something out of this post. Keep on reading for my best tips at the moment. There is no denying that most people accept values pushed onto us by diet culture as their own. Internalising such ideas is obviously not helpful for anyone vulnerable to developing or already struggling with disordered eating behaviours. Though diet culture is a year-round thing (lucky us!) I know festive season and the flurry of New Year’s resolutions which quickly follow after it, is an extra difficult time. Here follow some tips first of all for everyone…

Will it fit? ~ recovery and clothing size
Hello hello! I’m currently traveling and have some time to kill, so thought I would sit down and attempt to catch and solidify all of the thoughts that have been buzzing around my brain for the past few days. Today, I’m going to bring to you a little spiel about clothes which are the wrong size for your body, and how to deal with it. Scroll down to the bottom for a quick-read list, if you don’t have 4 minutes to spare for reading the bulk of the text <3 Recently, I cleared out the wardrobe in my childhood room. I am a recovering hoarder (lol), and have only recently…

Skipping meals – and why you shouldn’t
Hello hello! I just wanted to jump on real quick and write about skipping meals in recovery (although this frankly applies to anyone). I think many people, as part of disordered eating, may form habits of skipping meals every now and then, or even do so consistently. Today, I had breakfast/brunch fairly late at about 10:30am, and then had some errands to run. I got back home, had a small snack, and started to feel hungry at about 4pm. And I felt bad, as in my mind having brunch meant I shouldn’t have lunch, and especially not at 4pm when I was going out for dinner in a couple hours……
